Itinerary

Drive: Depart Nairobi early morning (approx. 4 hours) to reach Sirimon Gate (2,600m). Hike: Start the trek from Sirimon Gate, following a well-marked trail through montane forests to reach Old Moses Camp. Distance: Approx. 9 km (about 3-4 hours). Elevation Gain: 700m. Highlights: The initial part of the trek winds through a dense forest rich in wildlife, including colobus monkeys and bird species. As you ascend, the landscape shifts to bamboo and heather zones, revealing views of the surrounding valleys. Accommodations: Overnight at Old Moses Camp (basic mountain hut with shared facilities). Meals: Lunch and dinner provided.

Highlights: Pass through the scenic Mackinder Valley, surrounded by giant lobelias, groundsels, and breathtaking views of peaks like Batian and Nelion. This section is excellent for acclimatization as the altitude increases steadily. Accommodations: Overnight at Shipton’s Camp, nestled at the base of the peaks (basic mountain hut). Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

Summit Attempt: Early pre-dawn start (around 3:00 AM) to reach Point Lenana at sunrise. Distance: Approx. 8 km round-trip from Shipton’s Camp to the summit and back to Shipton’s (about 3-4 hours). Summit Elevation: 4,985m (Point Lenana). Highlights: Experience a stunning sunrise over Mount Kenya, with possible views of Kilimanjaro on clear days. After the summit, descend back to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast before continuing down to Old Moses Camp. Descent to Old Moses Camp: Approx. 14 km (4-5 hours). Accommodations: Overnight at Old Moses Camp. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

Hike: After breakfast, continue descending from Old Moses Camp to Sirimon Gate. Distance: Approx. 9 km (about 2-3 hours). Drive: Drive back to Nairobi (approx. 4 hours). Highlights: Enjoy the beautiful views and fresh mountain air as you descend through the forest. Arrival in Nairobi is expected in the late afternoon. Meals: Breakfast provided.

Frequently Asked & Question

The Sirimon Route is moderately challenging and requires a good level of fitness, but it's suitable for those with limited trekking experience. We recommend some training or regular walking beforehand to help with stamina and endurance.

The best trekking months are January to February and July to October, when the weather is generally clear and dry, making trails safer and views more spectacular.

Essential items include warm clothing, waterproof gear, hiking boots, a sleeping bag, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, and trekking poles. A detailed packing list will be provided upon booking.

We use mountain huts along the route, including Old Moses Camp and Shipton’s Camp. These are basic yet comfortable, with dormitory-style bunks and shared facilities.
